“Finding Her Beat” – Tan Ko Hin’s Journey

Tan Ko Hin, a 33-year-old client at SUN-DAC Bedok South, lives with intellectual disability (ID) and cerebral palsy (CP). She recently joined the centre’s Chinese Drums group—and has already made remarkable strides.
Although new to the programme, Ko Hin quickly caught up with peers who have been drumming for much longer. Her instructor shared that she has a natural sense of rhythm and can follow even the more complex drumming techniques with ease.
But her progress goes far beyond musical ability.
Participation in the Chinese Drums group has become a meaningful outlet for Ko Hin—one that nurtures self-expression, discipline, and joy. Since joining, she has shown greater self-assurance, is more engaged during group activities, and often greets staff with a smile that reflects pride in her progress.
This is the kind of impact your support makes possible.
Programmes like these are designed to develop fine and gross motor skills, improve attention span, and nurture social participation. Each session is tailored to meet our clients where they are—equipping them with the tools to grow at their own pace.
Ko Hin’s journey is a powerful reminder of how inclusive, skills-based programmes can unlock hidden strengths and build emotional resilience. At SUN-DAC, we believe in creating opportunities that empower adults with disabilities to thrive—not just through learning, but through connection and confidence.
