The Quiet Work of Growth — Kuan Neo’s Story Through Art

At first glance, Hama beads may seem like a simple craft. But for Kuan Neo, a long-time client at SUN-DAC, each bead tells a quiet story of growth.

When she first joined the Colour (Y)our World programme, Kuan Neo was shy and withdrawn, often turning down invitations to join group activities. Over time, however, she found her voice – not through words, but through art. As she carefully chose colours and arranged each bead, confidence began to take root.

To others, these artworks may appear small. But for Kuan Neo, they became a way to express herself. Today, she takes initiative, explains her choices, and even supports her peers. As one staff member shared, “She doesn’t need prompting anymore. She just does it.”

Her journey is a reminder that growth isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s found in quiet persistence – in showing up, picking a colour, and trying again.

Every bead tells a story. Kuan Neo selected each colour herself, reflecting her emotions and unique perspective.

At its heart, Colour (Y)our World offers more than art. It offers trust, space, and the belief that every individual deserves to be seen, heard, and valued.
