The shared humanity experience in volunteering

Ashwin’s journey with SUN-DAC began in March 2025 through a community referral, just as he was looking for a meaningful way to give back. Since then, he has actively supported mega outings, in-house celebrations, and regular programmes across both the Upper Thomson and Bedok South branches. Occasionally, he is joined by his wife, making their volunteering experience even more special.

One moment that left a mark was meeting Sen Yi at Our Tampines Hub. “He greeted everyone with the brightest ‘Hi’ and made strangers smile. It reminded me how powerful small gestures can be,” Ashwin shared. Among his many experiences, the Hari Raya celebration at Upper Thomson stood out most – a day filled with joy, music, and uninhibited expression from clients. “It was beautiful to witness,” he reflected.

For Ashwin, volunteering is not just about giving – it’s about connection, growth, and shared humanity.

He truly admires the work SUN-DAC does. His hope for SUN-DAC on its 35th Anniversary is that more such centres can be built – not just in Singapore, but around the world – so individuals with special needs have more places to belong, express themselves, and connect with their community.

Join Ashwin and many others in making a difference. Whether you have a few hours to spare or a heart full of compassion, your time and support can bring joy and empowerment to individuals with special needs!
