A Story of Movement and Confidence – A Journey of Growth Through Dance

When Mercy first joined the Me2 Dance programme at SUN-DAC Choa Chu Kang, she was quiet and hesitant. At 31 years old, and having been with SUN-DAC since 2013, Mercy often sits silently in her chair, unwilling to participate. Her Training Officer, Marissa, recalls those early days clearly — patiently encouraging Mercy to attend each session, even when she struggled and resisted.
Dance instructor Luqman also recalls how much support Mercy once needed. Every step, every movement, had to be physically guided – raising a hand, lifting a foot – each one a challenge met with patience.
But slowly, something began to shift.
Week by week, Mercy grew more at ease with the rhythm and flow of the sessions. The resistance softened. The physical prompts lessened. She began responding to cues on her own, even mirroring Luqman’s movements. What once felt impossible became familiar, even joyful.
Today, Mercy no longer needs reminders. When it’s time for dance, she rises with purpose, walking herself to the session, smiling, moving, fully present for the entire hour. What was once a struggle is now a source of delight and pride.
Her transformation didn’t happen overnight. It was nurtured through patience, trust, and gentle encouragement. Mercy’s story is a powerful reminder that with time, support, and belief, even the smallest steps can lead to beautiful progress.
