Finding Her Voice: Mui Teng’s Journey of Confidence and Connection

September 2, 2025, Written by 0 comment

At 54, Mui Teng, a senior in SUN-DAC’s Upper Thomson Ageing Well Programme, has always been a woman of few words. But her quiet nature began to change when she discovered something that truly spoke to her heart – animals.

In 2023, she joined Equine Therapy, followed by Animal-Assisted Activity (AAA) sessions in 2024. What began as silent observation slowly blossomed into genuine connection. Surrounded by gentle animals and the comfort of familiar friends, Mui Teng started to open up – first to her trainers, then to those around her.

With each session, her comfort grew, and so did her confidence. The woman who once kept mostly to herself now shares smiles and laughter freely with trainers and visitors. She playfully teases, engages in lighthearted banter, and expresses herself in ways that are uniquely her own.

Her journey is a warm reminder of the power of thoughtful, person-centred programmes – especially those that tap into personal passions and emotional bonds. Through patience, care, and the joy of connecting with animals, Mui Teng has found not just her voice, but a renewed sense of confidence and connection with the world around her.
