Love That Lasts – A Decade of Devotion Beyond the Kitchen

Though it has been ten years since Leong Suey Oi left her role as a cook at SUN-DAC Choa Chu Kang, her heart never left the centre. Each morning, she still arrives with warmth and purpose – delivering bread to familiar faces, greeted by cheerful smiles from clients and kind hellos from parents. Her presence, though simple, speaks volumes of love, loyalty, and enduring connection.
Every Chinese New Year, her care shines even brighter. Without fail, she brings four cartons of mandarin oranges – a gesture of blessing and gratitude that has become a tradition in itself. “I may not work here anymore, but I never stopped caring,” she shares with quiet sincerity.
For Suey Oi, the joy lies not in grand gestures, but in seeing the clients happy and engaged through the many meaningful programmes at SUN-DAC. Her hope for the organisation’s 35th year is as heartfelt as her actions: “May SUN-DAC continue to grow and bring happiness to more people.”
Her story reminds us that the bonds formed at SUN-DAC are more than professional – they are deeply human, built on compassion that lasts well beyond time or title.
