Rooted in Growth: Bee Eng’s Journey of Confidence and Care

When Bee Eng first joined SUN-DAC in August 2022, she was a shy and reserved older lady. But as time went by, her quiet nature began to blossom into warmth and confidence – nurtured by the support of her trainers and friends.

Through the Ageing Well Programme, Bee Eng found joy in simple moments – morning walks, visits to museums and coffee shops, and most of all, tending to her beloved Seed of Hope urban garden. Each sprout and leaf became a symbol of progress and pride. Whenever she saw her kangkong growing taller, her face would light up as she eagerly shared the news with her trainers.

Her connection with the SUN-DAC community deepened over time. The trainers became a comforting presence – even accompanying her to medical appointments when needed. She began opening up to new experiences too, learning to interact with animals through the Animal-Assisted Activities programme. What once made her anxious now brings her laughter and calm.

Urban farming became her favourite activity. Watching her vegetables thrive gave her a sense of purpose and achievement – a reminder that care and patience bear beautiful rewards. She also enjoys iBoccia, a sport that helps her focus and brings out her competitive spirit, with trainers often praising her steady aim.

From a reserved lady to one who now shares smiles, laughter, and excitement with her peers, Bee Eng’s journey is a testament to how compassion and inclusion can help anyone flourish – at any age.
