From Hesitation to Participation: Nadhrah’s Journey

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can sometimes mask the vibrant personalities of those who live with it. At SUN-DAC, the focus is never on limitations, but on possibilities. This is Nadhrah’s story – a journey of turning hesitation into enthusiasm, and silence into connection.

When she first joined, Nadhrah faced challenges with communication, social connection, and emotional regulation. She relied heavily on her iPad, which limited her interactions and kept her withdrawn from group activities.

With the help of SUN-DAC’s structured, person-centred activities like Timetable Planning, Nadhrah’s world began to open up. Her participation steadily increased – quiet observation gave way to warm gestures like claps, smiles, and thumbs-ups. She began approaching peers and trainers, seeking help and initiating conversation. These small but significant steps brought her closer to her community.

Structure proved key. Predictable routines reduced distractions and anxiety, helping her stay focused and emotionally prepared to try new experiences. Her physical wellbeing improved as she began enjoying light exercise through indoor dancing and outdoor walks.

Most meaningfully, Nadhrah has gained independence. She now completes activities like colouring, puzzle-solving, and veggie-packing with minimal assistance – taking initiative and building confidence with every task.

Nadhrah’s journey is a powerful reminder that inclusion is built through patience, empathy, and consistent support. With the right environment, people with disabilities can thrive, grow, and discover their fullest potential.
