Growing Together: Sri’s Journey with SUN-DAC

Sri first stepped into SUN-DAC in October 2015, not knowing then how profoundly the experience would shape both her life and career. Over the years, she has been more than just a staff member – she has been a companion, a listener, and a source of comfort for many beneficiaries.

She remembers vividly a moment when a usually reserved beneficiary leaned on her shoulder and cried, expressing emotions that even her parents had never seen before. On another occasion, a child spoke a few words in English for the very first time to her – an achievement so moving that the child’s mother came personally to thank Sri. These moments reminded her that her role was not just about providing care, but about building trust and connections with vulnerable souls.

The SUN-DAC community has also stood firmly beside her. When she was pursuing her part-time studies, the organisation adjusted her work schedule to support her academic journey – a gesture of care and understanding that she never forgot.

Among all the activities, Sri cherishes outings the most. Watching beneficiaries laugh, discover, and show their true emotions during these trips has always brought her immense joy. It’s in those simple, shared moments of fun that she witnesses their growth most clearly.

Her hopes for SUN-DAC’s future are expansive. She dreams of the organisation growing beyond day activity centres, into nursing homes and sheltered workshops, so that more beneficiaries can develop pre-vocational skills and lead fulfilling lives.

Reflecting on her own path, Sri feels an enduring gratitude. What began as a role as a Training Officer with no prior experience in the disability field blossomed into a career where she rose to Supervisor and now serves as a Corporate Executive. She has grown alongside SUN-DAC, carrying with her every lesson, every smile, and every breakthrough moment shared with the people she serves.

To her colleagues, especially the Training Officers, she offers words of encouragement: “You’re doing a great job and playing a vital role. Keep up the good work!”

For Sri, SUN-DAC is not just a workplace – it is family, it is growth, and it will always be a cornerstone of her journey.
